Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
