Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that contains many luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
