Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that features many amenities aside from the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
