Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is illegal. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
